The XHTML Advanced Course Exam is an open book examination that measures student ability to write effective XHTML code from first principles. Questions are supplied in PDF file format with sample solutions for teachers and a campus-wide site licence included in the package. Students use Notepad to build a website consisting of a home page with links to six further pages, as well as to nine Internet pages and to one external style sheet. The XHTML pages are saved as html files and students hand-in printouts of the source code for each page.

In 2009 the XHTML Advanced Course Exam replaced the HTML Advanced Course Exam.
